BE THE LIGHT
KEY VERSE:
"This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind" (Ephesians 4:17).
Thomas Edison conceived in his imagination that a lamp could glow and illuminate our environment with the help of electricity. With zeal and enthusiasm, he attempted to bring it to reality but met with failures. Despite more than ten thousand futile attempts, he persisted, until his dream became a reality. So, he gave the world "artificial" light which still shines several years after he exited this world. Thomas chose to be different from the people who easily give in to discouragement. Paul the apostle reminds the Gentile believers in Ephesus to be different in everything. Earlier, he had emphasised the need for unity among them that believed and how they must be resolute in their belief. He said the other Gentiles in the world have their understanding darkened, alienated from the life of God, and full of ignorance. And that because of the blindness of their heart, they commit all manner of sins without remorse. As believers, we must shun worldly patterns of life and norms that are in direct conflict with the law of God. God expects us to be the light of the world. The whole universe is darkened by sin while sinners grope in utter darkness. It takes the light of God which comes through His Word and the holy lifestyle of believers to illuminate the dark world. We must therefore stand in the gap through our deeds of righteousness to brighten the corner where we are. We must be the light that shines in our homes, communities, workplaces, government, schools and colleges. And we must at all times lift up the banner of righteousness to the glory of the Almighty God.
Thought for the day: As the light of the world, "brighten the corner where you are."
